I lived in SE Michigan for around 9 years. You couldn't sling a dead possum in that state without hitting a Morel! I now live in SW Missouri. The last few years, I have found only three! What am I doing wrong? The areas I'm searching are not that far from the lake (within 1/2 mile). However, the areas are very steep and somewhat rocky. There doesn't seem to be any type of undergrowth, especially on the south facing slopes. I'm surrounded by miles of woods and none of it seems to be producing anything. There are plenty of hardwood trees but also many cedars and pines. Does any of this matter? I've been looking since mid-March and haven't found anything. Do I need to find some flatter ground with a bit more undergrowth? Should I be looking at North slopes by now? Can anyone please help?? It would be greatly appreciated!!
