What a drag it was at the beginning. I've got a PGS photo of myself aged 11, as a newt (luckily without cap!) and I look a right little prat. It got easier in the 2nd year when other items of clothing were allowed. In my case this was from 1971 and I started wearing Ben Sherman shirts, two-tone parallels and brogue shoes, later to be replaced by platform soles. The school tie was still a must and the badge on the blazer of course but at least we could wear a fish-tail parka to cover up. A pity we didn't have a mixed school. Seeing the girls in their gear would have been great!
