Bren and Sten Gun in Vietnam?

Just wondering if the Bren Gun was used in Vietnam, I've seen photos of it being used in Malaya but never Vietnam.

Also was the Sten used at all?

Thanks.

Re: Bren and Sten Gun in Vietnam?

Chris, neither of those weapons were used in Vietnam and the Owen Gun was phased out very early in Vietnam as well.

I understand the Owen was 'phased out', but wasn't it featured (perhaps obscuredly) in the film "Danger Close" which depicted (mostly successfully, in my opinion,) the Battle of Long Tan ?

Re: Bren and Sten Gun in Vietnam?

I was a forward scout and as such carried the Owen when we arrived there in May 1966. I am not sure of the time frame but think that it was July or August when we received the American M16 Armalite rifle.

I noticed alot of Australian Soldiers would tape a field dressing to the butt of their rifles, was this to cusion recoil?

Re: Bren and Sten Gun in Vietnam?

No, it was so that it was readily available if it was needed.
