grandfather

Hello i am wondering if anyone can help me, I have been doing our family tree and talking to my grandfather whom is nearly 90. Up until about 4 years ago no one in the family new anything of his service in the Military but 4 weeks ago i was visiting with him and he shared a few stories any way to cut a long story down is there any where, where i can obtain records or information regarding his serivce ? I do know there is apparently a plaque in New Guinea with his name on it Honoring him. He said he was in 2/5th Battalion (Australian)

Re: grandfather

G'day Rebekah,

You will need his full name and service number. If you don't have that you can search for them here: http://www.ww2roll.gov.au/
When you have full details you can then do a search and request a copy of his service records from the National Archives of Australia here:
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/explore/defence/service-records/army-wwii.aspx

Cheers,

Ted
