Thankx for the kind words and thanking my wife! She was really surprised. It has been a long time since REX for me. I do not even have a REX anymore. I broke it and never replaced it!
I have never heard of your problem before. There were other problems, but never can't search past a certain letter!
All I can say is that it is very sensitive to the NAMEING of the files and assigning the CATEGORIES in REX. My guess is that your files after "e" do not have the same category.
(You can use my MEMOCAT addin to quickly look at all the files by category to verify!)
The index file must be CATEGORY: RD_NDX
The dictionary files should match exactly (including case) whatever you put in the INDEX files.
Note that the GERD files are not rex ready! You need to modify them somewhat and make a index file.
Check over the readme file carefully too!
In any case, if you email me a zip file of your dictionary, I can look at your index and files. I can't test them though!!

Finally, I don't think this applies anymore, but maybe it is....
File Names and Categories: make sure they are at least 8 characters long.
