Spanish Rolling Stone: 100 Best Songs of 21st Century
Hopefully someone can get a hold of the full list (which reportedly was compiled via votes from 64 music professionals), but for those Spanish speakers (it includes the top 10):
(2001); First of the Gang to Die, de Morrissey (2004); Galang, de M.I.A.
Re: Spanish Rolling Stone: 100 Best Songs of 21st Century
First of all, many thanks to JR for the information about this list. I don’t like much the Spanish Rolling Stone, so I must admit that I only buy the January issue in order to post to Henrik the best albums of the year.

About this list:
- The votes came not only from critics but also from Spanish musicians and people of the music industry (promoters, producers, directors of record companies, etc.). The magazine published the names and I’ve counted 28 music journalist out of 64 total voters. I don’t know if this can be included in Henrik lists (I think it’s the usual method in USA Rolling Stone Magazine too).
- The list is better that someone could expect from the Spanish Rolling Stone but, after an interesting Top 10 (well, even it could be extended to the Top 20, with a bunch of great songs like “Imitation of Life”, “Hung Up”, “Quelqu’un m’a dit”, “Wake Up”, “The Blower’s Daughter”, “Do You Realize??”, “Such Great Heights” or “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”), the list goes down and down coming to the usual mediocrity and lack of risk.
- I want to point to the high position of Morrissey’s “First of the Gang to Die”, one of my favourite songs of the last years and the song that my band uses to open our shows.
- Curiously, the word more frequently used in the song’s titles (well, tied with the usual “love”) is “Jesus”.
The list looks to be compiled similarly to USA Rolling Stone's various lists (i.e. 500 Greatest Albums, etc.)- they include critics and non-critic music profressionals, too, so I think it's fine.
Re: Spanish Rolling Stone: 100 Best Songs of 21st Century
what the f%$&k is going on here, where is Eminem, the greatest raper alive. "Lose Yourself", "Stan", remeber. where is "God put a smile upon my face" by coldplay. And why since 2001, U2's "All you can't leave behind" has terrific songs, "Beautiful Day", "Elevation", "Walk on" you name it. i don't get it. there are so many other songs that should be in that list. I mean, only one from The White Stripes and what happened to "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" and "Gold Digger"? If someone can explain all these "ausencias" please do.
different strokes for... well, you may have heard that saying. Many a list have notable omissions- hence, why they cause debate and discussion at times.
This ranking sucks! you can't compare #54 The Scientist (Coldplay) with #33 Speed of sound!!!, I mean, The scientist is twice better than speed of sound.
And what the hell is Madonna doing in the 8th place with such a plagiarism like Hung up!? (ABBA - Gimme).
And why Seven Nation Army is up there in the second place?? It is not SUCH a good song, perhaps between #10 and #20 would be ok.
And why Scissor Sisters's insulting version of Confortably numb is included and not this great song called "Mary"!!????
I think that the ranking should be categorized in Pop, Rock, Hardcore, etc. thus to avoid this incomparable comparisons.
Plagiarism? Then there's at least one other one, with Beyonce! Not sure if you know, but samples have been used in recordings for quite a long while now.
Re: Spanish Rolling Stone: 100 Best Songs of 21st Century
Well, PJ, I like a lot Scissor Sisters cover of “Confortably Numb” (very funny, and not insulting, pop songs are not like Bible or Koran), “Seven Nation Army” (a strong update of blues-rock) and, of course, “Hung Up” (the best song of 2005 in my opinion, with an irresistible beat and, yes, with a sample -like 99% of dance music today-).
Respecting Coldplay’s “Scientist” vs. “Speed of Sound”, I won’t say anything (I’m afraid that Michael could come after me this time).

In the hours of distress and miser, the eyes of every mortal man turn to friendship;in the hour of gladness and conviviality ,what is our want?It is friendship. When the heart overflows with gratitude,or with any other sweet and sarced sentiment, what is the world to which it would give utterance?a friend. 北京搬家公司 上海搬家公司 成都搬家公司 北京google左侧排名
