Surely if you have changed the internals of the Bosch to that of a Lucas one, you would connect it the same. I know that the old Bosch dynamos and regulators used to earth through their bodies but you have changed all that. I would wire as per a Lucas dynamo.
I guess you are correct. It just means I will only have 1 wire coming out of the dynamo instead of 2. Unless I take the earth of the regulator out of the dynamo housing and take it back to the battery and connect to the earth there instead of inside the dynamo?
Cheers
Rich.
I will be honest with you I have not had much dealings with the continental type of dynamo. On a Lucas dynamo one end of the field coil goes to earth inside the dynamo. The other end exits the dynamo and goes to the regulator. In the continental single wire type one end of the field winding is earthed inside and the end is joined to the D terminal. If you open the dynamos find the end that goes to the D and remove and bring out of the dynamo and attach to the field terminal of the regulator. This should make it work like a Lucas one.
You could try contacting these guys: http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.com/ They deal with both Lucas and Bosch dynamos and regulators.
