Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

As the title says, were WW2 bikes equipped with such a tab?? or is it a postwar thing??

Difficult thing to add or remove when magdyno is fitted (on B4) so rather get it right the first time!

Lex

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

I'm unsure when this was introduced...The cable housing shows no inclination to come loose in my experience so I don't fit one myself...Ian

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

I have NOS WD Lucas kits that contain all the metal parts for mag cables, they all have the locking tab.

That said I have never known one to come loose.

But it is on the rivet list

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

OK, thanks guys, did some searching in parts lists, but only the Norton B4 1941 proprietry p/l. from 1941 mentions them (nothing at all on magdyno's in earlier ones!! well exept points etc.) Matchless also used them, so will leave it on I guess..... Never had problems with them either, but for the rivet counters under us

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

Idle curiosity compelled me to break out a kit; sadly I seem to have chucked the WD carton with the LV7 number on it.

I am intrigued to see it comes with 3 different locktabs, one assumes for three different bikes, this opens up a whole new avenue of rivet counting......
the possiblities are near endless it seems.

and whats more, two are nickel plated and one cadmium

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

Keep forgetting I recently bought a prewarish copy of a Lucas catalog, and they are in there!

But only the flat ones.....

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

Sorry Lex, but down to my last two sets.

might have some odd locktabs though

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

No worries Ken, not that important.

Got the mag fitted at last! (with locking tab) now tomorrow the timing, and then the primary braincase, and we're getting somewhere! (need to do the Irish rally in August with the outfit).

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

I have a similar set, this one came in a red box. What's the difference between a red and a green box?

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

Henk, the green boxes were there before the red, but when the change took place I have not been able to find (yet) I suppose in 1955-58 but not sure.

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

Hm, I googled "England rationing end" and up came
http://www.quora.com/Why-did-rationing-in-the-UK-only-end-in-1954-when-WW2-ended-in-1945
and there it says 1954....

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

Hans, the brits themselves can probably answer that best, but I remember certain items were still rationed in the 70's, some foodstuffs, oranges?? cannot remember.

Re: Locking tab on adv/ret cable housing needed??

['and there it says 1954..']

I've always understood that rationing ended in 54...My mother said it was to celebrate my birthday...

There certainly wasn't any in the 70's...

Mind you, under the current regime I think they've bought it back...

' Don't they know there isn't a war on?'.... ...Ian
