For those who have questions regarding weights, classes, legality, regional or club races, ask them here. I will find the answers or direct you where the answers can be found.
The decision was made this previous weekend from a board meeting that the only engines allowed in Jr. TAG would consist of the Jr. Rotax and and Jr. Leopard. The decision was made to ensure parity and cost effectiveness to only allow the two most prominant engines. The decision to disallow the ROK TT was due to the cost to purchase the package was to high and there was not a current Rule package for the motor from IKF. The delay in rules for the motor was recently delayed due to the recent advantage declared by other organizations at recent events taken place.
Whats the weight for 80's at Stockton..i just want to run the opener and want to know cause i heard theres a Medium class instead of a Limited class??

Re: 2008 Questions
I am looking for you to clear up the situation delaing with old norcal motors and running them in the iame cup class. Does that class have a rev limiter? Just looking for some help to decide on an engine package for 08. Thanks.

Re: 2008 Questions
The new KG Airbox is illegal in both Sr. classes. The Airbox supplied with the engine is what must be run. I will check for the Jr. TAG class.
The 80 Medium class at Stockton is still undecided on weight. I believe its a race to race decision. They will get the entries together in the class and run a good weight in the middle for everyone to be competitive.
As for the National Cup Motors. The rev limiter will not be mandated. National Cup Motors will have a ten pound penalty at 380 lbs while the Stock IAME Cup class will weigh 370 lbs. Some believe the ten pound penalty does not make a difference and the National Cup motor will be faster at Mid Range tracks such as Dixon, Stockton, and Medford. Monterey might also be a good track for the National Cup. I praise the board on this decision. While through time they want all motors to be moved to Stock, they will accomodate them while they exist. Instead of Killing the Motor, through time they will let it die. This will keep all National Cup Racers very much involved.

Is this a new rule, I was under the impression that only the Leopard was allowed in Jr. Tag. If the Rotax Max Jr. is legal this will be an easy decision what class to put my son in. Thanks!

In Norcal Tag Jr, is the spark plug and radiator open like the Sr class??

Re: 2008 Questions
Dry clutches can be used in Yamaha classes, however wet clutches are still allowed. Personal opinion, dry clutch is faster, and will cost less to maintain.
Jr. TAG rules mirror the IKF TAG Sr. rules but with only allowing the Leopard and Rotax. Which means Radiator is open, but plug is still mandated to NGK Plugs. Read the rule book for complete clarification. I believe it states the type of NGK plug that comes with the motor, but you are allowed a colder burning with same part number classification.
Chris ...whats the status on SR.super sportsman in norcal for the clutches? since we are norcal and did not run a single disc last year and reg.7 did . is norcal not going to let in a single dry clutch in the sr SUPERSPORTSMAN CLASS this year? guys are asking this and know one knows whats going on....and the season is right around the block! the book says 2 disc dry clutch or your wet clutch is that the final rule or have they changed it again?
Big thanks!
Chris - when you went to the PRI show you came across a spray-on product for applying to drivers suits so they wash off real easy and stay clean. What was the name of the product and what is their website (if any)?
I hope this post answers most of the questions out there regarding the new classes for '08 and the ones that almost went away.

I sincerely hope this post is helpful to those of you that have had questions about the '08 classes and changes. If there are still more questions out there that are not answered in the IKF 2008 Rulebook, please feel free to contact Chris Scribner via this forum or you can e-mail me at ed-sandy@sbcglobal.net It is the 2008 NorCal board's commitment to improve the NorCal racing program for the participants within the parameters of the 2008 IKF and NorCal Supplemental rules. Remember, there will be an announcement concerning the NEW CLASS REP program for '08 at each of the first three '08 NorCal races. Please be thinking about who, in your NorCal class would best represent your class at the NorCal Annual meeting in November.

Chris ....did you find out about the clutches?
remeber just because reg 7 does it, does not mean we do.
Okay Ed. whats the call going to be on the clutches for Sr. supersportsman light & heavy ? 2 disc dry & 3 disc wet? or can they run a 1 disc dry?
guys are waiting to know, what they can buy and run.
Chris,
Today I found out, as you probably did too, that the NorCal National Cup motor is approved for 2008 IAME Cup competition @ 385lbs. The motor technical specs are per 2007 IKF Rulebook, Section 676. Sorry for the ommision. For those of you that choose to run the NorCal National Cup motor in the IAME Cup Class, it will ONLY be allowed in the Region 11, NorCal Series. You WILL NOT be able to run it at the '08 2 Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals. Hopefully, this is the last revision for the year.
Sincerely,
Ed Diederich
Jessica,
I will contact the IKF 2 Cycle Tech Director and find out what the intent was for this rule. It appears at first glance that it is a two disk dry clutch if you compare the language from the wet clutch and apply it to the dry clutch. I will try to post the answer tomorrow. Chris, who have you talked to for your answer?
Ed Diederich
I assume these are only for IKF races, not regular club races right?
So on my schedule I have 2 IKF races this year. I totally get it that I have to buy an IKF membership, but sew an IKF patch on my driving suit? Ain't gonna happen. I suppose I could safety pin one on (upside down even) and still meet that rule.
I can't wait for the first time a second place driver runs up to a tech director screaming "Hey! That guy doesn't have a IKF patch! I win!"
Jessica,
I apologize, I have not heard back from the IKF 2 Cycle Tech board member that I sent the clutch question to. I will post again as soon as I get a definitive answer on the "dry clutch" issue for SuperSportsman classes.
Ed Diederich
OK Everyone,
Please contact everyone you know that races in NorCal Region 11 Series. Another obstacle was tossed at us this morning by Infineon Sales Office. The new issue and one old issue have made the opportunity to hold the race at Infineon unacceptable from the NorCal Boards viewpoint. We feel that the impact of these two issues are not in the best interest of our regular NorCal racers that have supported the NorCal Series for many years. We are still going to hold the first race on March 15/16 with practice on March 14. The new race venue will be Bluemax Kart Club race track in Davis, CA. I apologize for the change of venue, but as I stated we feel it is best for you, the racers. The shifter drivers will not be required to have the RLV or M4 14' silencer, but as I stated previously, you may want to use them if you have them. All 2008 IKF Rules and 2008 NCTA-NorCal Supplemental Rules apply for all nine races in '08.
Respectfully,
Ed Diederich
President, NorCal
Sam,
No I am not implying that the Shifter and Yamahas are going away. I have spoken with Woltjer and John at FastTech. They both have suggested that the Shifter motor packages that are out there today and for '08 can not safely run "unleaded" fuel without being massaged in the ignition and combustion chamber areas. Daniel at Woltjer also mentioned that the four hole can Yamahas and the pipe Yamahas would be at risk for detonation in their current state of tune on days when the ambient is over 70 degrees. You may run the motors just like they are if you want, we are only trying to give everyone a heads up on what to expect.
Ed Diederich
Brad,
You are correct in assuming that the 2008 NorCal Supplemental Rules only apply at the NorCal Region 11 Series races and not at your home club track races. All rules, IKF & NorCal Supplemental will be strictly enforced whether a driver races one race or the entire NorCal Region 11 series. We look forward to seeing you at the races.
Ed Diederich
As a crew chief for our team I am really upset to the fact that we had to purchase a 14" Silencer for a race that won't happen. I never was for a race at this track because you added more cost to the racer, If you guys stayed at 8 races it wasn't a problem. Now we wasted good money for a silencer that is no quieter than a 12" silencer in good condition. Region 11 is turning into a joke now in my opinion. No fuel contract, no tech inspector as of today, 30 days before the first race,if you do you guys are not telling anybody. You are sticking with the YJL tires for shifter even after the importer states he may not have enough for the season.
He sent out a letter to the kart shops stating this with the new increase in tire prices. But yet you guys are still going to run these tires. Someone is not thinking!!!. With the cost of running a team in todays economy I see the attendance to be less than 2007. the teams that I have talked too are undecided about how many races they will run, they all said that they are looking at ways to reduce cost including myself. Ed D. being President shouldn't you be looking at ways to reduce cost to the Karter in all areas. Maybe have a poll for the drivers or ? on how to reduce cost or maybe ask a question "If you were in charge what will you do to reduce cost for the Karter and make it more eventful". Region 11 board members Do not have the answers now so how about we brainstorm like corporation do. If it is good for them and it works how come we are not doing it, after all we are the customers but sometimes I think the Board/IKF think differently. Infineon was a bad idea from the start and now look. Go figure

Re: 2008 Questions
Bobby, you sure have all the answers. You should have ran for NorCal PRESIDENT. Well, I do agree with one thing you said. Infineon was a bad choice from the start. But NorCal kinda figured it and thought what the heck, lets give it a shot. It didnt work. Time to move on. If you havent used your new silencer, I'm sure the shop you bought it at would take it back. If used, I'm sure you can sell it on norcalkarters.com classifieds to many of people.

Re: 2008 Questions
Ed or Chris,
ii) All first year “rookie” drivers must display a day-glow orange number panel on rear of kart for their entire first racing season. White number panels with black number at the other 3 locations.
The way I read this is... start where you qualify.
No back of the grid like X-head rule... correct?
Thanks in advance

Re: 2008 Questions
i need to know if any one has a infrered reciever for a alfano pro tach or where i can get one and how much are they i look on alfano website they dont have prices.so can anyone help me Thanks Scott #24D
Jessica,
Finally heard back from Jack Hoegerl, 2 cycle Tech Director Chairman on the "dry clutch" issue. The intent of the IKF National Board was to have a "two disk" dry clutch or a "three disk" wet clutch for the SuperSportsman classes. I have not had time to discuss this with the rest of the board yet.
Sincerely,
Ed Diederich
Scott, Acceleration Kart Racing has them for $75.50. Before you buy one ask Jessie when The Magnetic strips will be re-installed in the track. All that is needed is a small groove in the track deep enough to lay the strip into. In the mean time. You can borrow Ryan's receiver from the HPV kart.

Re: 2008 Questions
Chris, I have a question. On page 95 of the 2008 IKF competition regulations and technical manual, there is a shifter spec. chart. After the Formula 80 limited it shows that the front tire listed is a “YDS”. Is this a misprint or can a YDS tire be used on the front in place of the YJL.

Re: 2008 Questions
Bobby,
Infineon, sounded like a good idea and was until they put a restriction on practice. 14" silencer most likely will be mandatory in '09, hang on to yours. As of December '07, K&P said YJL tires were not a problem. Haven't seen or heard about the letter that went to "all the kart shops". Fuel contract is in place. Getting some negative help from one or two disgruntled club officials on securing a Tech Director for the series. We have secured the 4 cycle Tech Director for the series and we have a temporary 2 cycle Tech Director for the first one or two races. Should know more by the end of this week. Guess you haven't been reading much on this website before now. I have stated at least twice now that there will be a class rep from each of the NorCal Series Classes invited to the NorCal Annual meeting this November to advise the NorCal Board and voting club reps on the changes that they would like to see in their specific classes and any overall changes they would like to see in the series. By the way, proposals are accepted from any and all NorCal participants and/or clubs for consideration at the annual meeting. When you say you want everyone to have a say in what happens in NorCal, the Class Rep Program will give that opportunity to the drivers. If I misinterpreted any of your concerns, please send me an e-mail.
Sincerely,
Ed Diederich
Neil,
Chris is still on vacation, but I may be able to help you on your question regarding 80 Shifter tires. The section and page that you have indicated appear to be a "typo". If you refer to pg 48 in Section 250, you will see that Formula 80 Limited is designated YJL.
Ed Diederich
Bobby,
Checked out your statement concerning the YJL tires today. If you are going to post on this website forum at least have the facts correct. There is no shortage of YJL tires. K & P only sent a letter to the dealers to find out what quantities they projected to be using this season so as not to over order from the warehouse. Aren't there enough problems inherent in racing without creating fictional ones?
Thank you,
Ed Diederich
In Tag and Iame Cup spark plug is open but what about the spark plug cap or boot is it also open?

Paul V,
The cleaner i came across at PRI was Molecule. Really good stuff. Takes out any grease stain. Read the directions though, it doesn't work as well unless you read the directions first. Take a look at the product at www.moleculelabs.com
