I have high hopes for the new Stereolab record, but only time will tell. ps The Dodos rock.

From a simple glance, my guess for August would be David Byrne & Brian Eno's new album. It could be terrible, but it probably won't be boring. If it's interesting and not terrible, critics should eat it up.

Missy Elliott seems to be like a decent choice too since critics seem to love her (for some reason).

I've been right 2 months in a row! Let's make it 3 with The Verve for August.

Fleet Foxes at #1, such a fine album

The Verve is the obvious choice, though I have reservations about picking a 'first album back after a long breakup'.

Though there aren't many other critical forces releasing albums in August that I know of. Other than Missy Elliot.

People seem to be talking a lot about Lykke Li whom I know absolutely nothing about. I'll go with that just because The Verve is too easy.

Lykke Li already entered the chart in June at # 45, and currently is out of the Top 50 at # 51.
If with some US critics´ support she will re-enter this month, she will be a Re-Entry and cannot compete as a New Entry.

well ive heard the new verve and there is no way its going to be the best reviewed album of the month. very disappointing album.

Verve certainly doesn´t seem to be a good choice, as the reviews are rather weak up to now ...

Having heard the Verve album it belongs in the toilet and not on top of August's rated albums. Looking at those released this month I can't see anything really that will light up the best of charts. Late of The Pier's 'Black Fantasy Channel' is August's best album in my house though.

August is without a doubt the worst month of 2008 for music so far.

the new bloc party album is much better then i was expecting.

Two outstanding debut albums from Glasvegas and The Last Shadow Puppets look like top contenders to me for rock album of the year.
