However, the format got me somewhat confused. You have listed 52 albums + 14 French. However, the 52 albums also include a few French acts (Air, Daft Punk, Noir Desir)!? Also, why end up at 52 (or 64) and then present 20 albums bubbling under?

* Each issue of the magazine LES INROCKUPTIBLES selected 50 essential artists with one,two or more recommended recordings (RR). Sometimes some artists were coupled together. In that volume, it was the case for DR.DRE/N.W.A. with two RR. The same goes for ELLIOTT,MISSY/TIMBALAND/NEPTUNES,THE with "...So addictive" and "In Search Of..." as RR.
* In addition to the 50 essential artists, each issue has one or more section of styles/genres with various artists which could not be included as major figures of the decade. In this volume, [French Rock] had 12 selections. The writers of the magazine decided that AIR, DAFT PUNK and NOIR DESIR were more significant for the 80's/90's than all the other ones mentioned in the [French Rock] section.
* In Order to make a coherent issue, they chose to add
20 LP's in the vol.1 and 10 + 50 LP's in the vol.2...

Regarding the Appendix (assuming that you mean a compiled list of the most acclaimed collection albums), I am also very interested to see this list but I don't have any time to create it. I would definitely support anyone who would like to go through all the lists on the "all critics lists" page and count the number of entries for each collection!
