AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Now that Jackson has finished the All-Time Songs, here I am with the admittedly anticlimactic Top 2000s Songs! Whoo!

(It will be fun anyway.)

Some background:

- There were 26 voters total
- 2,116 individual songs received votes
- Due to the low-ish number of voters and the weighting system I used, high votes held a lot of sway
- As a result, the Top 500 has A LOT of songs that only got one vote
- Starting with No. 100, songs got 300 or more points. That was a very nice statistical breakpoint, so that's where I'm going to start as far as a detailed roll-out.

So the good stuff starts with No. 100. For the list-junkies, here comes 500 down to 101. A '*' means just one vote. Enjoy!

Btw, this string of songs back-to-back was shocking to me...I would have expected all of them either in the Top 100 or just missing. So many surprises...ahead!!!

That said, it's time for bed. More tomorrow.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Great to see this get started so quickly. I guess you were quite literally waiting for me to finish.

The large amount of songs with only one vote made me take this section with a grain of salt, but still, this section shocked me:

sonofsamiam

[233] Burial | Archangel
[232] Hot Chip | Ready For The Floor
[231] M.I.A. | Galang
[230] Madvillain | ALL CAPS

All top 100 quality, as with the songs you highlighted.

On an unrelated note, TV on the Radio split votes like crazy. I still assume "Wolf Like Me" and "Staring at the Sun" will be T50.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

The one nice part of having an eccentric list of songs is that I'm sure I'll find things I've never heard of before. Hopefully I'll find some gems out of these songs that only got one vote.

I love thinking of list roll-outs like this as running like one of those old radio "Memorial Day 500!!!" countdowns. In which case, this very cool, very creepy Knife track is a wonderfuly way to start things off.

Back in 2002 I'm sure many thought this would be a contender for decade-end Top 10s. Time has not been as kind as one may of thought, though this track surely continues to have its fans.

Note: in many cases official videos did not offer embedded links on Youtube ... I've just linked out to them, and included often horrendously cheesy fan-made vids in their wake. Enjoy!

As far as "Boy from School", ah, that's wonderful stuff huh? I much prefer this to the rather annyoing "Over and Over" ... nice choice here, AM.

Moonbeam, we're trying to make you happy, we really are. 2009 didn't have all that much success (more time is likely needed for perspective), though I'm confident Bat for Lashes will only improve its status over time.

If I'd been told in 2000 that Depeche Mode would figure in any Best-ofs of the '00s, I admit I would have been pretty incredulous. But here they are, in all their glory. And you know what? Given the general '80s-nostalgia filter that made its way through so much (especially dance) music in the '00s, it's only fitting that DM make their presence known. Tha Godfathas...

I'm not a huge Of Montreal fan, but there's something great about an insane 11-minute epic like this getting so much acclaim. Unfortunately Youtube only allots up to 10 minutes, but I'm lazy and you'll have to live with this live video and the static image over the album track. Either way, all hail overarching ambition and an embrace of the weird!

The album Late Registration is really an embarrassment of riches, which is why I always wonder why this one gets the props. It's good and all, but pales next to some of those fantabulous orchestrations. Is it a case of a first single status push, or is this just evidence of my own below-the-surface Jamie Foxx bias?

My problem with Animal Collective has always been that they sounded like they were playing Where the Wild Things Are while skipping their Ritalin. Panda Bear sounds like that same group, but after listening to Pet Sounds lots and lots of times...for 12 minutes (apologies for the abridged vid). But in a way, it's very heartening that something like that could get such widespread praise. With indie, the anything goes concept truly formed into shape in the last decade, and that's a great thing.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Something seems wrong when you have the incredible "The past is a grotesque animal" below *shudder* Coldplay. My word I can't stand them.

I'm really hoping Wolf Like Me cracks top 30 maybe, although I have no idea what's going to be first. All My Friends? BOB? Idioteque? Crazy? For a decade of hip/hop it would be quite humourous if someone like LCD Soundsystem won.

The emergence of Justin Timberlake as one of the most important artists of the decade is one of those things that, if mentioned in 2000 would have been met with derisive scorn, but which over time snuck up on us as an unquestioned fact. This was the first step in that process.

At the beginning of the decade, that might not have been so unquestioned if you were also told that Timberlake was ditching Max Martin for Timbaland.

I'll admit to questioning my high placement for "Cry Me A River" a bit. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great pop song. However, Timberlake's vocals continue to retain a boyishness and nasality that is a little grating.

I will, however, full-throatedly justify my high placement for "Move Your Feet." I don't think there is ANY irony in that track, or even in the album as a whole. It's all about joyfulness. The joy of dancing, the joy of music. (And if you listen to the whole album, you'll see how wide that goes. Each song is a pastiche of a different style from some point in the last 50 years of pop music, filtered through the duo's rather quirky shout-sung vocals.)

Yeah, with Justin I meant 2000 as "early". I assumed he was heading for a Behind the Music episode, but he outlasted the show!

As far as Junior Senior, I didn't mean to sound dismissive, and should really listen to the album proper as you suggest. I do think I got a little burned-out on this type of stuff throughout the decade, though I love Go! Team so should probably revisit.

I'm really glad to see "The Past is a Grotesque Animal" this high. That song might have the best lyrics of any song of the 00s, and is similar to "All My Friends" with its electronic sound and long, repetitive structure.

"Nothing Ever Happened" this low is a big disappointment for me. The guitar buildup over the last three minutes is simply fantastic.

Somehow I neglected to vote for the first song in my favorite three song sequence of this decade: Juxtaposed With U/Presidential Suite/Run! Christian, Run! Sorry about that fellow "Juxtaposed" fans.

Okay I realize this is kinda strange. I always have this weird vision when I hear "Juxtaposed with U" of a music video: it's a shot-for-shot remake of the opening credit to "The Love Boat," except instead of human actors playing Captain Steubing, et al., it's cheesy 50's sci-fi style robots (a la Robby the Robot or Pimpbot 5000). I think it fits, somehow, with the strings and vocoder.

I'm a huge SFA fan, but voted for other songs. "Juxtaposed" is excellent pop but pales next to their best (I tend to go for their epic side). If you too like epic-sounding crazy-ass pop, try:

Slow Life
Zoom!
Mountain People ('90s, I know)
The Piccolo Snare (not so crazy, but magnificent)
Receptacle for the Respectable (their "Happiness Is a Warm Gun", and it also has Paul on it, playing celery!)

Autobiography, especially when regarding such touchy subjects, can be a risky move. But when it's married to some retro-soul with an appropriate touch of modernity, as well as some deadpan humor and a ridiculously catchy chorus, it's just gonna work. Still, let's hope she reconsiders her stance.

Now THIS was a surprise, showing the power of 3 Top 20 votes. (Not the highest song with only 3 votes, though.) As you can see, this isn't something that has gotten much critical acclaim, but maybe polls like this will be a harbinger of things to come.

Anyway, there's something glorious about a 9+ minute epic from a former teenybopper making its presence felt like this. The '00s were cool in a way because of the artistic ambition of some, even given the death of the long-player as it had been previously known.

It cheered me greatly to see The Roots come in so high, even if there are several other better tracks by them from the '00s (imo of course). Really, everyone should do themselves a favor and check out the full albums.

Anyway, ain't ?uestlove cool? It's sort of fitting that in a decade where the drummer with chops became something of an anomaly (or at least appearing only in fringe genres), that one of the most proficient of 'em all would be in a rap group, and the leader of that group to boot.

And what was I saying earlier about the presence or lack thereof of proficient drummers on this list? Um…oops?

It really was sort of out of the blue that Portishead wouldn't only come out with a successful record, but also produce perhaps the best song they ever made, 11 years after their last album. It's like they'd never left, even though shades of 1997 are still present (seriously, play this and "Let Down" back to back and you'll see what I mean).

I agree that the Prince-on-quaaludes vocals can get cloying, but fortunately the presence of T.I. for balance, plus the controlled-yet-frantic Timbaland production, really made this stand out as "what-the-hell-is-THIS?" moment if switching the dial to a Top 40 station. (But where is the follow-up?)

And just like that, the Big 4 from Kid A are done. Kudos to AM for getting the "right" Big 4, at least to me! This is still a weird one, full of sounds of clattering machinery from the '70s, once-modern technology gathering dust, and rampantly-accelerating fear at the dawn of a decade where fear would often prevail.

But danceable, in its own twisted way.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Aww, i woulda hoped that Idioteque and John Wayce Gacy Jr. would challenge for at least top 20, especially considering that in the all time poll they finished 14th and 16th respectively for their decade. They're both really excellent songs.

I think in the case of this poll, there was some vote-splitting going on, not so much by artist but by album.

Spectacularly good songs in the last few posts. My #1 and #3 of course, but also the only Radiohead song I truly love (Everything In Its Right Place) and some other really good tracks. Shame John Wayne Gacy Jr. didn't end up higher, I think it was quite high on my list too.

More evidence of the general Pet Sounds influence that became so prevalent over indie in the last decade, this shows typically admirable attention to detail. And, apparently, Jay-Z and Beyonce are big fans, for what that's worth.

The theme of High Fidelity boiled down into song form, this is just hilarious. (Especially when you consider that if the narrator really was there during the making of Trout Mask Replica, then he would have to at the very least be in his early fifties when this song came out.)

This is pretty much Jay-Z beating the Beasties at their own game, with its unstoppable riff and inspired section with the racist cop. Several other Jay-Z songs just missed (including "Empire State of Mind" (very surprising) and the glorious "Ain't No Love (Heart of the City)".

You have to bookmark the edit page while it's still available. At this point, I assume you can't.

Great placement for 'The Rip,' and I agree those are the right four Radiohead tracks. 'The National Anthem,' in particular, should be higher. It's good to see 'Losing My Edge' place this high after what (for me) was a disappointing finish in the all-time poll. It tends to be forgotten now that 'All My Friends' and 'Someone Great' exist, but I think it stands up to those two tracks. The song's lyrics are deeper and more serious than I think most people realize, while also being humorous and rewarding for a music fan to listen to with all of the inside references.

Sufjan at his most grand, with the full orchestration, the background vocalists, and the combination of his inspiration and ambition coalescing perfectly. He has abandoned the 50-state concept, calling it a silly conceit, and it's probably for the best – he wasn't going to top this, and it was time to try new things.

Nominally QOTSA are a metal band, but this is more in the vein of the best hard rock from years gone by, with Dave Grohl and Mark Lanegan making very important contributions (supergroup mode before Them Crooked Vultures). I once heard this compared to Wire meets ZZ Top – I'm guessing Josh Homme appreciated that compliment.

It's kinda cool that the highest placement from Illinois isn't a grand statement, and only tangentially related to the state (it's a political holiday that kids get to miss school for). This is a great song because of the detail, the honest conflict faced by someone whose faith has been tested, and its ability to tread the fine line between pathos and shlock. Beautifully rendered stuff, and I hope he revisits this type of songwriting after he's done with the classical stuff.

On another note, what a bummer that so many of this group have no official videos.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

That last section was fantastic! I'm surprised to see Chicago and Casimir Pulaski Day beat out John Wayne Gacy Jr. on this forum, but I agree with the result.

What a great finish for Frontier Psychiatrist. I realized there was love for that song from its all-time poll finish, but it's nice to see it up here against conventional picks.

I didn't vote for No One Knows or Heartbeat, but both are excellent as well.

I'll guess when it gets up to the top 20. Sorry I'm one of the sole people commenting on this great effort.

This list turns out wonderfully. I love that so many album tracks (Sufjan, Radiohead) place so high in the total.

Don't know about "Steady As She Goes". I'd say Wilco's "Jesus, etc".

I second Henrik. Jesus, etc... is definitely in the list (and Steady As She Goes isn't). Two OutKast songs and All My Friends in the top 3. But what is #4. I hope it will my #3 (which it probably won't). Next one in the list: Lose Yourself.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

oh man, "Jesus, Etc." had totally slipped my mind. I'd say that song will definitely place.

I don't know why so many people dis this – the rhythm is fantastic, the horn sample is absolutely perfect, and Beyonce delivers her best vocal performance to date. She went supernova here and hasn't come down, and credit to Jay-Z for being the supportive boyfriend and taking a backseat.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Solid bunch there. Two of my favorites in Since I Left You and Jesus, Etc., and it's hard to argue with the other three. Lose Yourself still fires me up every time I hear it and (along with Stan) is in a tier to itself among Eminem songs.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

The Fleet Foxes song (47) is absolutely incredible. It's a total rediscovery. In all the top, it's my favorite yet.
Thanks you to those who voted for this song.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Those are 30 brilliant songs. While this decade has been weak based on albums, I think these 30 songs would stand up to 30 songs from any other decade (except maybe the 70s), because of the sheer diversity.

I'm impressed that this came out on top of all the Radiohead songs here, considering I think it's their most perfect masterpiece. The lyrics are the most evocative Yorke has done (strange but straightforward), while the music, with its nod to Alice Coltrane and other Eastern and jazz influences, is spectacular. Imagine if they'd put this on Kid A after all…

Another note: early on in the countdown, about 12 voters in, this was in the Top 10. I think Moonbeam would have liked that.

I love it! I'm quite pleasantly surprised by how well "Heartbeat" has done here. Of course I think it belongs in the top 10, but I'm absolutely thrilled and rather astonished that it made the top 50!

My top 20 prediction:

1. All My Friends- LCD Soundsystem
2. Hey Ya!- OutKast
3. B.O.B.- OutKast

Yes, it was a long long way from "The Loco-Motion" … 15 years later, Kylie finally cemented her critical reputation as an important pop purveyor with this track. And that nagging "na-na-na" is so effective because there is such an air of melancholy to it.

Just an incredibly catchy synth riff, and a surprisingly hippie-ish feel for a band normally associated with tongue-in-cheek Manhattan-ness. Only took 3 years to catch on, but now it's here for good.

This one really gathered steam in the last week of voting, and quickly propelled not only past "Staring At The Sun" (which it is also next to in the All-Time Poll) but all the way into the Top 20. I have to say it was very nice to see TVOTR get across-the-board acclaim here.

[17] The Strokes | Last Nite [2001]

Often The Strokes tend to cancel themselves out with vote-splitting, but 14 votes for this shows a pretty clear consensus. (Odd to me that "Someday" got left in the dust.) Anyway, this will probably go down as their signature song at this point, and it's pretty clear why.

It was a battle to the end between the 2 big MGMT tracks, but "Time To Pretend" pulled away in the final accounting. This really is a favorite here, when you see how this stacks up in the AM EOD critics list compared to this list.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

THe problem with MGMT is to choose a song more than another. Honestly the first six songs of Oracular Spectacular are almost perfect. I do't konw why Kids and Time to pretend are preferred because weekend wars, The Youth, Electric Feels and 4th Dimension Transition are as good or even more.
Whatever, I'am glad that I am not the only one to love MGMT.

For a long time "Digital Love" held an upper hand in the battle of the Daft Punk classics, but over the last couple days "One More Time" took the lead and didn't look back (though it remained close). I'm still much more of a "Digital Love" fan – forlorn computers, references to Supertramp, big synth solos, can one ask for anything more?

Also, dunno why vids of these are so hard to come by. Enjoy the music!

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

At this point I like pretty much all the songs and love many of them. After what I thought was a disappointing performance for Daft Punk in the all-time poll, especially "Digital Love," their fans came through in this poll.

That's surprising. Last time I checked, all of Interstella 5555 could be found on YouTube. (And I don't think Daft Punk made any videos of Discovery other than Interstella 5555.) I am not an anime fan, but I just loved watching the whole thing.

I think we all know the songs, it's just the order in question:

Both one of the best covers and one of the best videos ever, this will remain stunning in perpetuity. I need to take this moment to recommend his cover of "The Mercy Seat", which is even better in its own dignified/terrifying way.

There are many Americans at this point who don't know the name Arcade Fire, but definitely know this song, as it's become ubiquitous in commercials, including for the Super Bowl. I guess in a way this was inevitable, this track in particular has a massive epic-ness to it that lends itself to those types of occasions. On relistening, in fact, the real shock is how abruptly it ends – that double-time closeout could go another 3 minutes and I'm sure fans would neither mind nor notice.

This was Top 10 for most of the polling and slipped out in the last days. It is interesting when a song that generally differs from the rest of an artist's output turns out to be the consensus choice as the best, but sometimes a classic ballad is just gonna win out. (Though a little distorted guitar never hurts.)

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

This list is awesome! I'm again amazed that one of my favorites has such a high place, this time in the form of Kylie making the top 20!

I'm always shocked to see "Wake Up" do so well. It's nearly my least favorite on Funeral- still a decent song, but not special to me.

I was a little surprised this came out on top of all the Arcade Fire tracks, so I listened to it again, and AGAIN I have to hearken back to the '80s. This is like filtering the bigness of U2 and The Cure for the bedsitter, both epic and personal. It's a difficult task to make that work.

Everyone talks about the guitar that sounds like a bass, and that's good ominous classic rock stuff, but what I love here is the sheer caveman force and simplicity of Meg's drumming. It makes AC/DC's drummer sound like Neil Peart.

With so much love going in the direction of other OutKast tracks, it's pretty cool that this still plowed it's way all the way to No. 7. Heartfelt and sincere yet sonically very, very cool, I think we all really took OutKast for granted from '98-'03. I want 'em back.

[ 6 ] The Knife | Heartbeats [2002]

Terrific placement for a terrific track that is only going to continue growing in stature over time. Not as overtly weird or experimental as their subsequent work, but that's OK – it just serves as exceptional synth pop for anytime, anywhere.

No. 1 in the EOD list, but No. 5 is still pretty nice here. Has there ever been a chorus so dependent on sound effect samples, or at least that used them so effectively to both excite sonically and deliver the song's thematic message?

Note: The gap in points between 5 and 4 is huge. We're now entering a whole new zone...

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

I'm going to revise my prediction:

1. Hey Ya
2. All My Friends
3. B.O.B
4. Crazy

OutKast simply cannot be stopped in this poll. Heartbeats at #6 was a very pleasant surprise, and I agree with you that its acclaim will only grow with time.

Before this dropped, both Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo had their own levels of underground cred – the former from the great Grey Album mash-up, the latter from a decade of work with Goodie Mob, OutKast guest spots, and his own solo work. I doubt anyone would have predicted that their teaming up, especially under a rather ridiculous pop-culture-referring band name (always reminds of bad "ironic" '90s band names like Eve's Plum) would release one of the era's hugest and most defining singles.

But here it is, with its spaghetti-western strings and classic pop structure, right down to the running length. But at the end of the day its all about the vocal. Apparently done in the first take, it's utterly perfect.

An amazing thing about this is its average per vote – the only 2 songs with a higher average in the entire Top 100 got 3 votes apiece; this got 14. So yes, you either LOVE this, or didn't vote for it at all. Yet when you see the final tallies it almost came in at #1.

The other amazing thing? Everything else. This is a blitzkrieg of sound, and really one of the more avant-garde super-hits of our time. I love it to death.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

"Digital Love" and "Rebellion (Lies)" gets higher grades from me now.

Is it just me or does "Crazy in Love" and Ms Jackson remind me of each other?

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

B.O.B. is incredible. It's a shame that Outkast will probably get the silver and the bronze. I can't see All my friends being beat.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Green Day is completely underrated on this list.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

You mean Green Day did something this decade that was good enough to be among these songs? I must have missed it.

B.O.B. nearly made my list by the way. I do agree with your statement that you either love it or hate it, but I'm only just starting to love it.

Agreed!

American Idiot was one of the best albums of the decade, IMO. 21st Century breakdown was decent.

It was close to the very end between this and "All My Friends" – in fact, at one point Jackson asked if anything had a shot at beating "All My Friends", and this was at the very moment "Hey Ya" (briefly) passed it.

In the end it had more votes, but not quite enough high votes (just 46 points apart signifies a closer race than many thought). Regardless, this reflects the consensus feeling that this a song that brings people together, regardless of what genre one typically likes or what make background someone comes from. And at the end of the day the No. 1 song of the '00s is about growing old and keeping it together, which makes it sort of an anthem for the Facebook generation, I suppose. I'm very pleased in a way that the top song is so long, and also that its Reich-ian beginning is the most overt nod to minimalism in a well-known song since the opening strains of "Baba O'Riley".

So what do we have at the ends of the day then? A consensus Top 4, with 2 songs being huge, traditional pop songs and the other 2 massively ambitious in scope. All are great, and this whole list in fact was quite satisying. Thanks for playing.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

That's a great top 100. I should have stuck with my gut and predicted "All My Friends" to win, but I thought Ms. Jackson's placement at number 7 indicated OutKast was unbeatable. Still, numbers 2 and 3 for a whole decade is nothing to be ashamed of--according to us, the Beach Boys and Beatles in the 60s were the only ones close to duplicating this feat.

Now, shameless plug time: if you're interested in AM fantasy baseball, go to this thread hidden in our Misc. forum (I'm posting this because most posters don't go there regularly).

sonofsamiam
Thanks for playing.

Thanks for the initiated comments!

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Great list, great presentation and especially great comments sonofsamiam.
It's unbelievable that Heartbeats almost beated Paper Planes. Very good placement for Dreijers.
But what's the comment about Postal Service and emo? I thought emo was something like this.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Awesome presentation, sonofsamiam, and what an awesome list!

I feel that my album unveiling is rather lame.

Nonetheless, this list really does justice to a decade too often regarded as meaningless in terms of musical output.

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

A common phrase from me in this forum has been "thousand thanks", but I have just learned that in English it's "thanks a million" and Sonofsamiam you deserve them all!

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Awesome presentation, sonofsamiam! Hey, you (and Moonbeam, Alex D and Jackson and ...) are setting the standard so high that frankly I don't know what I'm going to do when I post the final results of the 50s and 60s poll.
Sadly everytime I open this thread my computer gets hung up because (I suppose) of the size. Anyway it's not your fault at all, maybe I should replace my computer.

[108] Kanye West (feat. GLC & Consequence) | Spaceship
[104] Joanna Newsom | Peach, Plum, Pear
[102] Animal Collective | Leaf House

So close for 3 of my favourite songs of the decade, dammit ! On the other hand I'm glad to see other people like Blood on the Motorway, Twilight and I'm Not Done (ending surprisingly high).

The Knife - Silent Shout : it took time before it became my favourite track on its album, but it is by far the best grower among it, with its dark and oppressive (but still very danceable) mood

Hot Chip - Boy From School : I love it more than Over and Over too, but none are even close to annoying !

Kanye West - Gold Digger : I still think at least 7 songs on the College Dropout are better than this one (and 2 or 3 in Late Registration)

Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River : I don't think I had that one on my list but I'm glad other AMers like it ; it succeeds in sounding both ambitious and poppy, an immediate hit with artistic merit (and one of the last track before Timbaland lost any artistic concern)

Radiohead - There There : the only song I really like on Hail to the Thief, and Emma de Caunes is sooooooo cute (even in this video)

Franz Ferdinand - Do You Want To ? : the song that first gave me a hint that I would hate their sophomore album...

TV on the Radio - Halfway Home : one of the best openers of the decade, I don't listen much to Dear Science anymore, but that song and Lovedogs still get regular play on my winamp !

Aaliyah - Try Again : probably the best R&B song of the decade, perfecly delivered by Aaliyah, the kind of song that stick to your head and never goes out. I bet that song and some other will be remembered in 2030 the same way we remember the hits of the Supremes today.

T.I. - What you Know : at first listen it can sound just annoying, but it is one of the most innocuous song of the decade (and yeah, HUGE is the word)

New Order - Crystal : I could expose myself to big trouble in this forum for saying that, but that is by far my favourite New Order track

Kanye West - Jesus Walks : one of those Kanye songs "better than Gold Digger" I was talking about, especially perfectly linked with Never Let You Down

LCD Soundsystem - Tribulations : the more lot of other songs of LCD Soundsystem climb in my all-time list, the more that one falls down... I'm getting tired of it obviously

Radiohead - How to Disappear Completely : I would have bet it would make the top 50... really tragic and haunting

Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy Jr : talking about haunting *shivers*

The Roots - The Seed 2.0 : as much immediately felt in love with this track as I have been disappointed by the full album

Radiohead - Idioteque : only 46 ???

TV on the Radio - Staring at the Sun : I love the word "otherwordly" sonofsamiam used there, that really defines the best TVOTR tracks

Jay-Z - 99 Problems : beating the Beastie Boys at their own game... never thought of it... might explain why I like that that much !

Annie - Heartbeat : a few years (months ?) ago, "eurodance" would have been an insult for me, that has been one of the few proofs of the contrary... it has every thing I should not like and still, it is unresistable

QOTSA - No One Knows : probably only my 10th favourite songs of QOTSA but given that this is my 2nd favourite album ever by my favourite band and that it has one of the best drum solos ever, I'm very happy to see it that high

The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist : I would have liked it to beat Since I left You, which I like but cannot compete with the incredible performance of making a song that singable, danceable and loveable by using movies (or TV shows maybe) samples

Sufjan Stevens - Casimur Pulaski Day : one of my best friend cry every time he hears this song, on the one end that makes him a pussy but on the other hand I feel like he is the one who is right...

The White Stripes - Fell In Love With A Girl : advice for beginners drummers : that one is both very easy and incredible fun to play

LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great : the most clever song ever about grieve

Johnny Cash - Hurt : dignified and frightening indeed

Arcade Fire - Wake Up : last week I listened to this one in the car in Iceland, passing between glaciers, and that will probably remain as one of the 3 most marvelous moments of holydais full of them ! (by the way, go visit Iceland ! Right Now ! It's incredible !)

Arcade Fire - Rebellion Lies : I'm always shocked to see "Rebellion Lies" do so well. It's nearly my least favorite on Funeral- still a decent song, but not special to me.

Outkast - Mrs Jackson : when that song was aired in France, the band was totally unknown hear and honestly as much as I love it, I thought until Speakerboxx was released that they never had done anything else... I did even know about what would become my 2nd favourite track of the decade

Outkast - B.O.B. : the previously called 2nd favourite track of the decade !

LCD Soundsystem - All my Friends : glad to see that one winning (even though I would have like the same top 2 as Pitchfork even more)

Well, awesome list as often ! I would have much more to say on many songs but I'm a bit too tired to try to write properly in English ! Dig that (and the album list) and you might understand why the 00s are my favourite decade !

Re: AMF Poll: Top Songs of the 2000s - Results!

Compliments for the presentation Sonofsamiam! Due to the inclusion of the Youtube clips I discovered already quite a few 00s gems I wasn't familiar with yet.
