Dear Josie
"Trying is Good" surprised me in it's moments of poignancy. There was warmth and genuine reflection which was quite lovely. But by coming back to your body shape as a joke you let yourself, and women, down.
Why do female comedians still fall back on criticising their body for humour?
Surely this is degrading to you and to women. It is hindering our progress. We are better than that. You, Josie Long - who succeeds in finding humour in such a funny & meaningful way - are better than that.
I know its a tough gig, but there is still a huge gap between males and females in the comedy industry. I hope you do not take this as a major criticism - i genuinely enjoyed your show. More so than many of the other female comedians i support. I guess i am contacting you because i saw moments of brilliance and possibility in your performance - and i hope that one day you will lead the way. I sincerely hope you move forward in this difficult industry without having put yourself down on stage.
Warmest regards,
Paula |
