A new feature this week with the front runners. It's interesting what's at the top.

RULES: Vote for 5 Beatles songs using this format:

Comments are very welcome but not required. I'd like it if you give an overall comment but you don't have to.

Songs will be eliminated every Monday and Thursday and a new vote will begin each day. In the event of a tie all songs receiving the elimination vote will be eliminated.

40 or less left: Eliminate 4 rather than 5.
20 or less: Eliminate 3
10 or less: Eliminate 2 for two cuts
Final cut: Eliminate whatever is left (There will be 6 songs or less left) and declare a winner!

The tiebreaker rule will still apply for every round.

I remember reaching this point in AM Survivor, when all of a sudden everything turned inside out and most of us were voting for people we actually really liked. So it is here.

“Happiness” is, somehow, an organic whole built out of disparate and seemingly unrelated parts. It doesn’t add up to quite enough to be in the Beatles’ top ten, but there’s nothing wrong with it.

“Yesterday” is “Yesterday.” It is slightly overrated (just because nothing by a rock & roll singer had ever sounded like that), but only slightly.

2: In My Life: this song seemed in danger in a quite early stage of the game, but fortunately stayed and it’s now a serious candidate for the Top 10. Positive aspects: the audacious chord progression, the tight and lovely Paul vocal harmonies, the John melancholic lyrics and the impressive George Martin faux-harpsichord solo (it was really a piano recorded with the tape speeded down). Acting picky (inevitable at this point of the game) the only thing I don’t really like is the shift in the lyrics, reminiscing lost friends and places in the first verse and turning into a simple love song in the second.
1: Here, There and Everywhere: the biggest (positive) surprise of the game (the negative was the early walrus hunting) is the love for this gem that Paul intended as an answer to the equally superb “God Only Knows”. Positivity: the more-than-perfect chord progression and the dreamy backing vocals. Only negativity I can find is the bland electric guitar backing, maybe with acoustic guitars could have been better…

Same votes as last week. The biggest surprise for me out of all the songs is the high placement of "Here, There And Everywhere". To me, that just doesn't seem like a song that would do so well out of all the songs the Beatles wrote.
