Forum poll: The Best Albums and Songs of 1995

This is the sixth part of the best albums and songs of the 1990s poll, which is described here.

You are welcome to list and discuss your favorite albums and/or songs of 1995 in this thread. List(s) need to be posted before the end of June to be included in the calculation of the combined top 10 albums and top 10 songs of 1995.

Albums and songs listed under 1995 at Acclaimed Music will only be counted in the forum poll if they are included in this month's ballots. So please have a look at the 1995 album and song lists before voting.

I'm sorry I didn't provide much depth to my Oasis comment. I was just surprised that it got at least double the points of any other album and song for last year.

I mean I wasn't some Pitchfork-style music snob when Oasis came out, I was only 14, and I immediately didn't like it on its surface... at least compared to Blur which I had discovered at around the same time. To each his own.

I hope that my Oasis comments don't remind people to ran k them even higher this year! I should probably just shut up about it.

Any Oasis song I should look up that might change my mind? The singles are incredibly irritating.

My favorite Spanish song of 1995: El Niño Gusano's "La mujer portuguesa"

El Niño Gusano (“The Worm Kid”) were an anomaly amidst the Spanish indie-pop scene. While its peers sang in English they choose to sing in Spanish. Its musical influences included of course some indie-pop and lo-fi heroes like Teenage Fanclub or Pavement but its wider range included even Spanish pop 60s pioneers like Los Ángeles or Los Brincos. They created a unique universe inhabited by pelicans, big beetles and other strange creatures Tim Burton-style (worm kid, Captain fly, bulb-man), the world of four mocking grown-up kids. Its unexpected and humorous lyrics, its peculiar and disturbing album covers and its chaotic and irreverent musical arrangements were its main features.
“La mujer portuguesa” (“The Portuguese Woman”) opened its first album “Circo Luso” (“Portuguese Circus”), a self-produced album recorded in a granary-studio with spare resources. A peculiar lo-fi approach to pop and psychedelia that Pablo Gil perfectly described as “collages mistreated by a rowdy boy: too much paste, a zeal hanging, three clamps, …”. The references to childhood are significant. Pablo Gil in Rockdelux again: “El Niño Gusano played profusely with childhood images. (…) There were images of little toys, paper dolls, various animal characters that turned its records into sinister fables (or Jules Verne nightmares), quotations to games, merry-go-round tunes, ... And all that mixed with the intrusions of adult life, of the daily life, reminding us that all is imagination, that the truth is here, that someone pulls the stings of the puppets”.
