2006 Acclaimed Music Pazz & Jop
Here are the rules: Complile your list of top 10 albums and then give each one a score of no less than five, no more than 30. And the scores of all 10 albums can not add up to more than 100 total. Here's an example ballot. 1. "Playing With Fire" - Kevin Federline (30) 2. "Goodbye Alice in Wonderland" - Jewel (25) 3. "The Eraser" - Thom Yorke (10) 4. "Straight Outta Lynwood" - Weird Al Yankovic (5) 5. "The Sweet Escape" - Gwen Stafani (5) 6. "We Don't Need to Whisper" - Angels and Airwaves (5) 7. "Wolfmother" - Wolfmother (5) 8. "Ys" - Joanna Newsom (5) 9. "The Greatest" - Cat Power (5) 10. "Fishscale" - Ghostface Killah (5) Also, pick one album as most overated of the year and one as worst (may or may not be the same album). To keep an element of surprise this year, e-mail me your poll to AckattackX@hotmail.com. In the subject line put AM Pazz & Jop, and above your list put what handle you use on the blog here. The deadline is New Year's eve, and I'll post the results during the first week of 2007. Any questions you can post here. Finally, I'll list last year's top 10 below. Good luck to all your favorite albums. 1. Sufjan Stevens - "Illinois" 170 (11) 2. Antony and the Johnsons - "I’m a Bird Now" 78 (8) 3. Sleater-Kinney - "The Woods" 70 (6) 4. Gorillaz - "Demon Days" 61 (5) 5. The Go! Team - "Thunder, Lightning, Strike" 56 (5) 6. The White Stripes - "Get Behind Me Satan" 55 (5) 7. M.I.A. - Arular 54 (6) 8. The Decemberists - "Picaresque" 51 (5) 9. Kanye West - Late Registration 49 (5) 10. LCD Soundsystem - s/t 48 (6) |

Re: 2006 Acclaimed Music Pazz & Jop
Fun idea, RR! Reissues don't count, I assume? (They finally put out the Triffids' "Born Sandy Devotional" on CD, and that has been one very fine thing about this year - although it took away one of my tape recorder's main reasons for staying alive). This poll may make December a lot more fun :-) |

Yeah, no reissues. But if anyone wants to nominate best reissues of the year, I'll list them also. |

Still plenty of time, but so far HowlinAndrew, tim and bullfinch are the only ones with ballots in. It's fine to post your choices here, but you can also to e-mail them to me at the address above. That way the results will be a surprise. |

Re: 2006 Acclaimed Music Pazz & Jop
My first post on these forums, but considering how much the British critic lists are shafting the Hold Steady, they need some love somewhere. I consider the top five the only ones I know for sure I'll be playing in five years, I could be wrong though: 1. The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America (21) 2. Ghostface Killah - Fishscale (17) 3. Destroyer - Destroyer's Rubies (17) 4. Belle and Sebastian - The Life Pursuit (12) 5. The Roots - Game Theory (8) 6-T. Ali Farka Toure - Savane (5) 6-T. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife (5) 6-T. Bob Dylan - Modern Times (5) 6-T. Lupe Fiasco - Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor (5) 6-T. Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood (5) And songs, well these are just my most played according to iTunes: 1. Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy" (20) 2. Destroyer - "European Oils" (15) T-2. Ghostface Killah - "Back Like That" (15) T-2. I'm From Barcelona - "We're From Barcelona" (15) 5. The Hold Steady - "You Can Make Him Like You" (10) 6. TV on the Radio - "Wolf Like Me" (5) 7. The Strokes - "Razorblade" (5) 8. Ghostface Killah - "9 Milli Bros." (5) 9. Belle and Sebastian - "Funny Little Frog" (5) 10. The Roots - "Here I Come" (5) |

Re: 2006 Acclaimed Music Pazz & Jop
1. Love Is All - Nine Times That Same Song (25) 1. The Pipettes - s/t (25) 3. Peter Björn and John - Writer's Block (9) 4. Belle and Sebastian - The Life Pursuit (8) 5. Joanna Newsom - Ys (7) 6.
