Re: Q EOY 2005
One Q writer: I seem to recall we gave a good review to McCartney earlier this autumn. His album is his best in years, isn't it? Another Q writer: Yes it is. No doubt about that 1: But shouldn't we include it in our year-end list then? 2: Are you out of your mind!?? He's OLD!!! 1: Yes he is, but the album is excellent. 2: Yes it is, but, I mean: Look at his fans. A lot of 60 somethings like him for Christ's sake! We cannot put a guy like that on our year-end list!! 1: Why not? The album is great 2: Our readership would never forgive us! Remember, our list of the best albums of 2005 is not the best albums of 2005, it is what we expect our readers to pick as their best albums of 2005. 1: Oh well, OK. I guess you're right. No McCartney in the list then... |

Re: Q EOY 2005
I find it amazing that Q named X&Y their #1 album, considering that at the time it was released most of the reviews were mixed at best; this is borne out by the fact that the album isn't even on the current AM Top 2500. I know that rankings for current-year albums always go up once the EOY lists start appearing, but this is an extreme case. |

Re: Q EOY 2005
Very few albums by established acts are in the current AM list, as they are based on Metacritic, and Metacritic is usually harsh on established acts as they are always more "controversial" than the less established ones. "X&Y" is in most year-end lists by UK mags, although not as high as in the Q one. |

Re: Q EOY 2005
It does not come a surprise, but Oasis at nr. 4!, just because it wasn't as bad as the previous two, doesnt make it the fourth best album of the year. I'm guessing the Gallagher brothers have become a part of their national identity or something, why else would anyone still pay mind to their recycled pop/rock? Also, James Blunt, are you for real? I thought it was universally and cosmically agreed upon that Blunt is MOR for people who really don't care about music, but would rather take Blunt (and his likes) as a substitude for silence... |

I've lost what little respect I had for Q now. |

Re: Q EOY 2005
McCartney should definitely have been in there instead of James Blunt. |

Re: Q EOY 2005
If you check out Q's gushing 5* review of X&Y you'll see that why they gave it album of the year. A shocking list this year. |

Re: Q EOY 2005
And no Sufjan, I just realized. The album that is shaping up to be 2005's most acclaimed, with just as much support coming from British critics as American, and Q doesn't have room for it in the top 50. Wow. |

Re: Q EOY 2005
Q often tend to have room in their lists for a lot of albums who did originally receieve good reviews, but aren't "hip" enough to find their way into the NME lists or similar. Which means some of the generally hyped ones aren't there (but, that being said, there considerably more overrated albums from 2005 than the Sufjan Stevens one) |

Re: Q EOY 2005
Could the readers choice of tracks be any less imaginative? 'The readers get what the readers want' and that would appear to be very undemanding approaching middle of the road rock (mostly). Lovely! A magazine for Dads (but not this Dad) |

Re: Q EOY 2005
Oasis their #4 of the year but coldplay at #1 is just awful, Gorrilaz at #2 and The Arcade Fire #8 is by far the best in the list |
