Artists' names unnecessary, I hope: 1 OK COMPUTER 2 IT TAKES A NATION OF MILLIONS TO HOLD US BACK 3 NEVERMIND 4 SLANTED AND ENCHANTED 5 THE QUEEN IS DEAD 6 SURFER ROSA 7 3 FEET HIGH AND RISING 8 SIGN O’ THE TIMES 9 RID OF ME 10 STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON I haven't been to spin.com yet, so I don't know if the whole list is online. |

Re: New SPIN list: Top 100 Albums of the Last 20 Years
For a Spin list this one is surprisingly good. Talk Talk and Massive Attack are two unforgivable omissions, but otherwise it's all here. |

Thanks Charlie. Yes the 2004 lists will be added. Some day... I am slowly progressing with the jazz/world update. After this update, the site will hopefully become more active again. |

Re: New SPIN list: Top 100 Albums of the Last 20 Years
Good stuff Henrik. Btw - the sites still great. Also, Going back to the SPIN list for a moment. One glaring omission has to be Primal Screams 'Screamadelica' - it's amazing how little credit this seems to get in the US. |

No Madonna!
But, not a surprise at all, since she didn't appear on either of its decade lists (Greatest of 80s and Greatest of 90s)- kinda surprising, given the props it's given her through the years (i.e. No. 2 on Ten That Mattered the Most, 1985-1995; having The Immaculate Collection at No. 11 on the top 100 alternative albums, etc.) Stunner that OK Computer is No., though. (sarcasm, of course)

Re: New SPIN list: Top 100 Albums of the Last 20 Years
It's interesting that 94 of these 100 albums are already on the Acclaimed Music top 1000. Guess SPIN's tastes aren't as iconoclastic as they think! (Although there are certainly some eccentric omissions and judgment calls, e.g., neither of the two OutKast entries being SPEAKERBOXXX/THE LOVE BELOW.) For the record, here are the six that are not currently in the AM top 1000: Fugazi, 13 SONGS Rage Against the Machine, THE BATTLE OF LOS ANGELES Modest Mouse, THE LONESOME CROWDED WEST LE TIGRE Meat Puppets, UP ON THE SUN Big Black, ATOMIZER The Fugazi and Le Tigre albums are not even in the top 2000, although that may change with the next major post-jazz list update. |

Hmmm...
I had thought there was a Spin Best of 80s- maybe I was thinking of its Greatest Albums of All Time list? Very well could be. Are there any other good features in the 20th anniversary issue, for anyone who has gotten it? |

Re: New SPIN list: Top 100 Albums of the Last 20 Years
that list is garbage, for many reasons that I can't organize because I'm drunk, but for one, no flaming lips album. and what is with the pretentious junk like moby, basement jaxx. ugh, terrible. |

Re: New SPIN list: Top 100 Albums of the Last 20 Years
Eh, if you damn an entire list because it has a few bad omissions or a few bad inclusions, you'll never like any list made by anyone ever. Some big omissions for me are... Sonic Youth - Sister White Stripes - Elephant And of course, Screamadelica I also would have included a different Sleater-Kinney album. I'd put all three of there 00's entries higher than Dig Me Out. But in general, it's a fairly decent list. At least, much better than what Rolling Stone probably would have put forth. (They probably would have Eminem in the top ten.) |

Re: New SPIN list: Top 100 Albums of the Last 20 Years
Ever notice how it seems like The Bends and OK Compuer are almost interchangeable on lists such as this? You just know Radiohead will be #1 but you're not sure which album it will be. With that said, it's inexcusable that The Bends isn't on this list. It's like they didn't want to put three Radiohead albums on the list so they just left that one off. I'd have a lot less of a problem with lists such as this if they actually put The Bends AND OK Computer on but put them on accurately (i.e., in the lower reaches of the top ten, imo). I find it hard to believe that whatever committee was behind this actually liked OKC infinitely better than the Bends. Rather it seems obvious that the discussion was, "Okay, well we're not going to put one of the albums on the list--but we'll put OKC at #1 to make up for it, happy now guys?" In-politics like this, in my opinion, discredits the entire list... |
