Re: The 50 Best Australian Albums

Great to see AC/DC at #1. Back In Black definately packs a punch (or should I say 'kicks ass'). 'Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution' and "You Shook Me All Night Long" are my favourites.

Also good to see Nick Cave well represented. I wonder whether 2004's Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus would make that list (if compiled today)?

Re: The 50 Best Australian Albums

Although I'm not an expert of Australian music, I feel it's not the best possible list. I mean, what is Silverchair doing in the top 10? The Go-Betweens, The Triffids and The Church deserve much more appreciation too. But that's only my opinion.

Re: The 50 Best Australian Albums

Yeah, I too think this list is a bit shonky. It's great to see AC/DC at #1... and the Oils, the Avalanches, Radio Birdman and Nick Cave riding high.

But what is Silverchair doing in the top 10? And you really have to question any list that puts Savage Garden (Eeeek!!!) ahead of the Saints, the Church and the Birthday Party? And just what is Olivia Newton-John doing on any serious critics' list??

Wasn't Olivia Newton-John...

born in the UK? I'm aware that she grew up in Australia, but, technically...

Olivia is a guilty pleasure of mine- she's no great *artist*, but she's got a lovely voice and has had some catchy tunes. She and Kylie Minogue probably are two of my best guilty-pleasure acts. Kylie's no great *artist*, either, much of her early material sounds the same and she basically sings the same thing again and agan- but the music's so damn fun.

Re: The 50 Best Australian Albums

I notice a couple of people have questioned why Silverchair are so high on this list. All I will say is, if you haven't heard the album listed (Diorama), get your hands on it. It is a far cry from their earlier work that most non-Aussies would be more familiar with. Diorama is IMO a great album which has been overlooked by the rest of the world.

Delta Goodrem

Delta doesn't belong on any self-respecting list!
