2004 lists from Portugal
The following is a compilation of the three major 2004 music lists in Portugal. But first, a description of each publication for Henrik to decide whether he wants to use it, and for the casual curious reader to have an idea of the kind of publication that spawned the list. - Blitz: many music newspapers and mags were born and died, but only this weekly newspaper managed to stay alive. It's been so for over 20 years. It is the Portuguese equivalent to the NME (or at least what the NME used to be). Its focus is wide, from Pop to Heavy Metal, to Hip-hop, to Electronica, and casually even Jazz. - Y: the weekly music and film supplement of the most respected Portuguese daily newspaper, "Público". It also has a wide focus, but has a reputation for favoring avant garde music over "regular" pop and rock. - DNmúsica: the weekly music and film supplement of the second most respected Portuguese daily newspaper, "Diário de Notícias". It has a reputation for being the reverse of the previous one: it has more specialists on "regular" pop and rock (in a country where people like Tom Waits and Sigur Rós are top ten artists), but doesn't forget avant garde, especially electronica. And now, the 2004 lists: Blitz - Foreign Albums: 1. Tom Waits "Real Gone" 2. Franz Ferdinand "Franz Ferdinand" 3. Brian Wilson "SMiLE" 4. PJ Harvey "Uh Huh Her" 5.
