Gaffa, best of year lists for 2003 and 2004
Hey all, Although I'm actually Swedish, I currently live in Denmark. Gaffa is Denmarks biggest music magazine and is available for free in many cafés and music stores over the country, a bit like the Village Voice in NYC. The lists below have been put together by their critics, so as I understand it they qualify for Henrik's database. (There are probably more yearly lists available, but these were the ones I was able to find). For those who are looking for the best bands of other countries than the US/UK, we can note that the Danish critics like Swedish artists like the Cardigans and Stina Nordenstam and Norwegians like Kings of Convenience. My own view is that there is a general lack of unique expression among Scandinavian artists. Swedish artists Kent and Håkan Hellstrom are pretty good, but their (Swedish) lyrics are perhaps their strongest characteristics. 2003 01. Blur: "Think Tank" 02. The White Stripes: "Elephant" 03. Re: Gaffa, best of year lists for 2003 and 2004
Swedish groups such as The Hives and Soundtrack of Our Lives are bigger abroad than at home. Neither group is particularly original, but they are at least no opportunists trying take opportunity of the garage rock "movement". They've been doing what they're doing for a long time. |
