USA Today's top 10 albums
In the past they have had their critics give individual lists. This year they actually formed a list based on consensus: 1. U2, "How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" 2. Alison Krauss & Union Station, "Lonely Runs Both Ways" 3. Loretta Lynn, "Van Lear Rose" 4. Green Day, "American Idiot" 5. Kanye West, "The College Dropout" 6. Brian Wilson, "Smile" 7. Prince, "Musicology" 8. Elvis Costello & The Attractions, "The Delivery Man" 9. Patty Griffin, "The Impossible Dream" 10. Usher, "Confessions" They also named the Best Single: Green Day, "American Idiot" |

Re: USA Today's top 10 albums
Usher has made a decent number of top 10 lists; I am surprised because his reviews were good, but not great. Perhaps people think he should be on lists b/c of popularity?? I don't know. |

I Doubt Popularity Plays a Role In Usher's Decent Showings...
otherwise other big commercial successes would be cited. He does have that good combo of mass appeal and good reviews. While he's not exactly cutting-edge or anything, he's done pretty good work (well, aside from his mega turn-off vocal turn-off in that If I Ain't Got You duet version. There was no need to turn that grand track into a duet. *shudders*) |
