Another list where everyone is white (unless I missed one)!!

Can we get some urban sources in here? Surely VIBE or someone put out a list.

Why do black people only make urban music? Seems to me you dont get as much musical diversity with black artists.

The most hyped band for 2005 is Bloc Party. They have a black singer but don't make urban music.

Yeah, I love how you're always criticizing the lack of black artists as racist, and then implying that all black people can make is urban music, and that black people are the only ones who can make it. Seems just as warped as the narrowminded lists themselves.

I didn't say black people can only make urban music, though that is predominantly what black artists make. Regardless, very few minority artists (regardless of genre of music) are being praised in the year-end lists.

Black artists not praised in EOY lists ?
What about Outkast, Missy Elliott, Kayne West, Madvillain, Dizzee Rascal, Jill Scott, Beyonce, 50 Cent, Jay Z, Kelis, Usher, Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige ?
ALL these artists received much acclaim these 5 last years.
I don't feel any racism in EOY lists. Some years are better than others maybe, but generally there isn't any discrimination.

Re: Drowned in Sound Albums of the Year

If they make good music they'll be in the lists. fact is the only thing new in rap in the last few years has been Eminem and the urban/R&B scene is pretty lacklustre at the moment. What you black guys need is another Hendrix or Michael Jackson (before the plastic surgery).

Oh and I forgot to mention Dizzee Rascal has been in quite a few lists. He's not everyone's cup of tea but he's pretty decent.

Re: Drowned in Sound Albums of the Year

Dumbangel - That's only a handful of artists mentioned. Considering we could name hundreds of white acts who have received as much or more praise than those acts in the same time span, I don't see where you have much of a point. The fact that I have pointed out *multiple* year-end lists where few to no minority artists have been mentioned is circumstantial proof of racism in these lists. I could see where a random year might have been bad for urban music, but we are talking about something that happens every year.

Michael S - I doubt you even know what is going on in the R&B/hip-hop scene. Eminem is the only big thing to have come around?? LMAO! Of course you pick the white guy that critics have jumped on. Urban music is dominating the music scene right now, whether you like it or not.

Cant say I've heard much urban stuff that's impressed me. There's a lot of trashy stuff in the charts but that's about it.

Michael - Have you listened to the latest albums by Van Hunt, John Legend, Jill Scott, Kanye West, Brandy, Amel Larrieux, Nas, Anthony Hamilton, or Talib Kweli?
