Rolling Stone Year-End Albums/Singles
Haven't seen rankings yet, but there are a few mentions in an article I found. Ciara's Goodies? It essentially copies Yeah!'s lead. ---------------------------------------------------- Meanwhile, the ALFIE soundtrack, the BEASTIE BOYS' TO THE 5 BOROUGHS and GENIUS LOVES COMPANY by the late RAY CHARLES have made the end-of-the-year issue's Best Albums list. They join GREEN DAY's AMERICAN IDIOT, THE CURE's THE CURE, ENCORE by EMINEM and THE DELIVERY MAN by ELVIS COSTELLO + THE IMPOSTERS among others. And the top 10 singles of 2004 include CIARA's GOODIES, JESUS WALKS by KANYE WEST, GREEN DAY'S AMERICAN IDIOT and USHER'S YEAH. |

I Skimmed RS...
the singles are not in numerical order. I don't remember them all, but aside from the 4 mentioned, there's Franz Ferdinand (shock!) and The Killers' Somebody Told Me. Toxic is not one of the 10 singles. |

Re: Rolling Stone Year-End Albums/Singles
Is this THE single list? I'm asking since the top 10 album list is not released yet, or is it? Also, are the singles ordered 1-10 in the order you wrote them? Thanks, Henrik |

Re: Rolling Stone Year-End Albums/Singles
The singles list is in alphabetical order by artist, not ranked. Interesting that only four of RS' top 10 singles are in SPIN's top 20, and that SPIN includes a remix of "Yeah" but not Usher's original. By the way, who else noticed with bemusement, upon perusing RS' album list, that Jann Wenner's unabashed fellating of Mick Jagger and Co. continues? I'm sure LIVE LICKS is OK as Stones concert albums go (what is this, the 139th or something?), but one of the 50 best albums of the YEAR? Please. |

Re: Rolling Stone Year-End Albums/Singles
This is still strange to me. I think they always have presented lists of ordered albums and singles in the same end-of-year issue, and now they present a non-ranked list of singles in one issue and the albums in the next issue? |

I Remember One Year...
where it listed the top albums and singles (as selected by RS critics) in the reader's poll edition. But, this year looks may be a little different. |

Yet Another 2004 RS Critics List...
in the new edition, it has the top 10 albums and singles- but it also includes non-Rolling-Stone critics, as well. Have past years also inclued critics other than Rolling Stone? And, here, unlike RS critics' top 10 of 2004, Britney Spears' Toxic is included (No. 6). |

Re: Rolling Stone Year-End Albums/Singles
ahh... in the gwen stefani cover issue? they do this every year, an alphabetical top 50 in the year-end issue, and then in the next issue they get the critics top 10 and the readers top 10. this is the list people should look at... don't even bother with the top 50 in the year-end issue. |

Re: Rolling Stone Year-End Albums/Singles
So should I replace the previous singles list with the new one? And could someone please list the 10 albums and singles? |

What Happened to the Posts?
Did they get lost or somethin'? Anyhoo, I checked the 2001 Music Awards issue- that featured 14 RS critics and 3 non-RS. So, the trend of including some non-RS critics for the Music Awards issue looks to be a practice of the last few years, at least. The non-ranked list that appeared at the end of 2004 took up more space, as it featured comments about the singles. |

Re: Rolling Stone Year-End Albums/Singles
I commented on this yesterday -- it's lost in the Internet ether, evidently. Anyway, it looked like a couple dozen critics contributed to the 2nd RS list -- I'm not sure who was involved with the 1st one, but if it was fewer I think it should get less credence, amount of space used up or not. If it's really a problem, both lists could be included, with each getting half the amount of weight that the 1 list would normally get (assuming I'm understanding Henrik's methods correctly).

The Newer List...
features non-RS people, whereas the first doesn't. That's the major difference. |

Re: Rolling Stone Year-End Albums/Singles
This isn't brain surgery or rocket science. The second list is ranked 1-10, while the first list was just 50 albums in alphabetical order. All ten on the second list were on the first list. Therefore, any albums on the first list that didn't make the second list should be considered as albums 11-50 in no particular order. P.S. I already posted this message once. |

Re: Rolling Stone Year-End Albums/Singles
Johnny, The albums are not the issue here. It is the singles, which have been presented in two different top 10 lists. |
