Murano is indeed separated from Venice; public transport is ok during the day, due to lots of commuters to and from Murano. You can find timetables on www.actv.it - Murano is served by lines 41, 42, NMU and DM - an hourly service runs at night... good luck if you miss one!
Murano is probably the perfect place for a romantic break, two resturants we recommend are Ai Frati and Lele Busa La Torre.
Locanda Conterie is a very small and modern establishment.
