sounds to me like jon may be right, it could definately be velvet. my goldfish have gotten it before, they tend to get this soft sheen to them then it gets thicker in areas.velvet is a protozoal infection. the parasites are smaller than those of ick and can take 2 weeks or more to treat. they say to look for treatments with formalin and malachite green such as Quick Cure. Aquarisol with copper sulfate they say is helpful.you will want to treat the whole tank as these parasites go through stages where they dwell in the rock crevises of the tank before they fully form and become water born attaching to your fish and living on them. good luck- beth |
