Questions for Mistheria
Hello, I have discovered you about a year ago and ever since you have become one of my favorite keyboardists up there with kuprij and rudess. Your expression is very good, much more than a lot of robotic neo-classical players. My first question is, what most significant classical masterworks have you learned, what is your piano repertoire like? Next, have you ever timed yourself playing scales to metronome and if so, what tempo can you reach with 16ths. The next question might come off as rude, please forgive me, but are you able to make a comfortable living off music, and if so, what from specifically? It is an injustice that you aren't a millionaire from your solo album alone, but I know reality which sucks. thanks you! take care keymaster |

Dear friend, thank you for your nice words and for appreciating my playing. I studied the most important composers of Classical repertoire but I have to say that technique is based on some specific masterworks: “Well-tempered clavier”, “English suites”, “French suites” and complete keyboard works by J.S. Bach, “Gradus ad Parnassum” by M. Clementi, studies by Hanon, Beringer, Kessler, Cramer, E. Pozzoli, C. Czerny, F. Chopin, sonatas by Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven. I don’t know if where you live you use to study on Ettore Pozzoli books, if not you should! This Italian master is one of the greatest teacher that wrote a lot of didactic masterworks. I studied is complete opera and I had great benefit! Over here (Italy) he’s one of the most regarded authors to improve technique and playing. These masterpieces are the fundamental for every pianist/keyboardist. My favourite piano repertoire is F. Chopin, F. Schubert, R. Schumann, Russian composers though I like to play various pieces from many “Romantic” and “Neo-Romantic” composers (1800 – 1900). As for scales, never timed myself, it is really not important! You have to listen yourself playing precise, clear, without tempo-fluctuation, articulated and with correct hand position on the keys. The metronome is important while studying but not for a “racing” reason rather to allow all your fingers to play at the same timing, this is important! You can increase tempo step-by-step until you can play as above, when you reach your limit you should go a step back and start again… You would like to know if I earn money from Music to live? Yes. Of course, I do a lot of things to reach my “survival”! ;-) I teach, play on tour with Italian pop star, record on albums worldwide, work in my home-studio on arrangements and on many other projects including soundtracks for radio/television, maybe something more… The really important thing is that I live all day with Music with passion and enthusiasm! To reach your target you have to believe it but never you can say that you have reached it! I study all days as I did during my Conservatory years because I think to be still at the beginning… Take care my friend and thank you again for writing, if you have other questions my Forum is always open! ciao mistheria, scusa se ti rompo sempre le palle pero' ogni giorno ne esce una nuova , e siccome voglio imparare io domando . la domanda è questa : ma le scale diminuite sono l'equivalente delle scale armoniche???? ossia col maestro che ho adesso le stiamo studiando (le diminuite) e da come me l'ha imparate lui mi sono accorto che sono le stesse scale armoniche che ho su "HANON". che poi alla fin fine sono coloro che danno quel suono neoclassico tipo lo stile di malmeesten. pero' mi sembra strano perche' su vari libri o siti riguardanti le diminuite si parla sempre di una successione di TONI-SEMITONI O SEMITONI -TONI. che non hanno niente a che fare con la successione di una scala armonica!!!!! che mi puoi dire a riguardo??? grazie anticipato per la risposta ciao |

Ciao Stefano, le scale diminuite sono ben spiegate qui: http://www.soundme.com/diminuite/dim01.htm Non le accomunare alle scale armoniche anche se l'atmosfera che creano potrebbe portarti a farlo... d'altronde anche cambiando il tipo di scala può accadere che alcuni intervalli rimangano gli stessi. Le scale diminuite vengono costruite su un accordo diminuito che ha una sonorita' motlo adottata nella musica classica e in quella neo-classica a-la Malmsteen come dici tu. In definitiva, la scala diminuita esiste perche' esiste un accordo diminuito, cosi' come una scala minore esiste perche' esiste un accordo minore, ecc... Studiala e cerca di utilizzarla, magari creati una struttura armonica di 8 battute e esercitati a utilizzare le scale piu' appropriate su ogni armonia... ;-) Vai forte cosi'...! rieccomi qua' maestro  , allora....., ho da chiederti una cosa , sono completamente andato in fissa per Niccolo' Paganini!!! mi chiedo pero' se quello che lui faceva con il violino sia possibile rifarlo con tastiera (magari con il suono solista) ??? ossia i vari capricci , e cmq le altre sue opere virtuose??? e ultima cosa se esiste qualche libro a riguarda sullo stile di Paganini o simile. grazie maestro ci si vede appena ripassi per roma

Riguardo Paganini... beh dovresti sapere che io ho arrangiato il suo famoso Capriccio n.24 eseguendolo come "Solo Synth"... ;) Ascoltalo sul mio profile www.myspace.com/mistheria Riguardo a libri sullo stile di Paganini e similari non so esattamente a cosa ti riferisci... comunque prova intanto a prendere le sue partiture originali e provare a leggerle... c'è già molto lì! :) Un abbraccione, a prestissimo! |

ciao maestro!! rieccome qui' a romperti le scatole gia'ti avevo accennato tempo fa' che mi piacevano i "skill" che hai sul sito. pero' siccome il mio orecchio no sara' mai in grado di trovare le note, appena hai tempo( stai sempre in tour!!! ) potresti mettere le partiture di altri skill ??? sono utilissimi !!! grazie ci vediamo appena capita ciaoooo
